Abstract
The article presents research into values of a child living in modern post-industrial, global knowledge and technologies society. The relation between spiritual and material values of a 5-6 year old child, his/her national identity peculiarities, tendencies of destructive values formation and some other factors are analysed. Aim of research. To investigate 5-7 year old child’s value system shaped by global knowledge society. Research methods. Interview with a child; collision and problem situations to a child; observation of child’s play. Sampling. 402 5-7 year old children attending education institutions. The research methodology was prepared and the research was conducted by lecturers and Master’s programme students of Childhood Studies Department in 2003-2005. The research results show that a) a child growing in global knowledge society absorbs both positive and negative values at early age; b) a 5-7 year old child is not overmastered by material values- such values as beauty, good, happiness, love, wisdom are still of high importance to him/her; a child possesses a strong sense of national identity; however, one fifth of children admire destructive values; c) a strong influence of television culture on formation of child’s value system has been identified; computer games and films have a more negative influence on child’s values than fairy tales.
