At the end of the 20th century, significant changes occurred in Lithua nian photography: some photographers rejected earlier traditions and did not conform to the conventional artistic criteria. Photographers, like other artists, abandoned expressive visual form and humanist con tent, which had dominated in Lithuanian photography since 1960s, and came up with deadpan images suggesting a reflective approach towards a person and his or her environment. Thus, they transcended relatively narrow boundaries of art photography and became a part of Lithuanian contemporary art scene and global tendencies of photography. The works of Lithuanian photographers that merged into the in ternational context of contemporary photography were not bound by the earlier humanist trend in Lithuanian photography or by the joint resistance of young photographers against the photographic tradition. The diversity of Lithuanian photography predetermined by its merging into the global context is not merely a sign of the transitional period, but a permanent state of contemporary photography. Considering this, the works of Lithuanian artists discussed in the book are not treated or generalised as a single ‘school’, but as a part of the global photographic art.[...]
Knygoje analizuojami svarbūs Lietuvos fotografijos pokyčiai, išryškėję XX a. pabaigoje.
