Karl-Erik Norrman is the founder and Secretary General of the European Cultural Parliament (ECP). The ECP is the only Pan-European forum for cultural personalities from all sectors of Arts. The ECP has around 160 members from 43 European countries.
On 25 May 2022, Karl-Erik Norrman was awarded the title of VMU Honorary Doctor for his significant contribution to the development of a European cultural network.
During his diplomatic career spanning more than 30 years, Norrman served in Moscow, Beijing, Geneva, and Rome, mainly dealing with foreign policy, trade negotiations, development cooperation, humanitarian affairs, and the United Nations.
While serving as Ambassador since 1989, Karl-Erik Norrman was appointed Swedish Commissioner General in Seville, Spain, for “Expo 92” in 1992. In 1994, Norrman became the Head of the Cultural Department at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in 1995 he was appointed Executive Member of the Commission for Sweden’s Promotion Abroad.
Norrman is also an opera soloist (tenor) and the author of more than 30 books on democracy, world population matters, Germany, China, India, the UN, theatre, opera, design, food, and other topics. He participates in public debates in the Swedish, German, British, Scandinavian, and other media and at international conferences. Since 2010, he has been a guest lecturer in cultural diplomacy at the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) in Berlin.
He is also a member of international Boards, including Place Branding and Public Diplomacy (London), ICD (Berlin), Vizar Architectural Competition (Sofia), Music Mind Trust (Sussex), Harald Edelstam Human Rights Foundation (Stockholm), Love Difference Association (Biella), and Population Matters (London).
