Application ProcedurePlanning Arrival and Residence

Application Deadlines:

May 17 For  1st semester or full academic year studies
November 17 For  2nd semester or calendar year studies

The exchange students can be accepted according to VMU exchange eligibility criteria:

  • all exchange students must be nominated by their home university (see the section "Nomination")
  • candidate's GPA must be not lower than 70% of the maximum grade
  • during the application 2 semesters must be completed by an undergraduate student/1 semester - by a graduate student
  • English language proficiency should be not lower than B2 level according to the European language levels (or equivalence: TOEFL - 65, TOEFL IBT - 72, TOEFL ITP - 543, IELTS - 5.5, TOEIC - 785)
  • art/music area courses are available only to the students majoring in art/music

All Higher Education Institutions (HEI) that has signed bilateral cooperation agreements with Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) must nominate their students who are seeking for admission to study at VMU under bilateral exchange programme. VMU sends the Nomination Link to HEI by the email before each semester (before the new nomination period starts at VMU) .

Once VMU receives the nomination data from partner HEI the Confirmation Email and further information about application procedure is sent directly to the indicated email address of the nominated student.

Nomination deadlines:

May 11 For 1st semester or full academic year studies
November 11 For 2nd semester or calendar year studies

Make sure that you have below listed documents. You will need to scan and attach them to VMU online application form:

  • Copy of your passport (validity has to exceed 3 months of the exchange period).
  • Transcript of records – the official document with the list of courses taken, the exams passed and the credits gained at your university. Get this official document (in English language and signed) from your university.
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency. Get this official document (in English language and signed) stating your English language proficiency from your university or provide other test results. Note: your English language proficiency should be not lower than B2 level according to the CEFR-European language levels (or equivalence).
  • Learning Agreement – the document with the selected courses at VMU.
    • First, check the course catalogue for more information. Note:
      • You may select the courses almost from all the VMU faculties/academies. The exception applies to art/music area courses. They are available only to the students majoring in art/music.
      • Pay attention to the location, as courses are offered in two cities: Kaunas and Vilnius.
      • The required amount of credits is 24 - 36 ECTS per semester.
    • Second, list the courses in the form of the Learning Agreement, sign it and ask your home university's international programme coordinator to sign it.
    • Third, list the selected (and confirmed by your home university) courses in your online application form (follow the application instructions sent via e-mail after your home university nominates you).
    • Fourth, attach the signed Learning Agreement to your online application form (follow the application instructions sent via e-mail after your home university nominates you).
  • Research plan (only for PhD students). Written in free form, the document should provide detailed information about the student's research topic, scientific interests and goals foreseen to be achieved during the mobility period.

Your application form will be processed in 2-3 weeks after application deadline by VMU exchange coordinator who will send the confirmation or will ask you to send the additional documents by the e-mail.

Your Learning Agreement will be signed by the responsible academic coordinator and attached to your online Application Form. The Acceptance Letter will be ent via e-mail.

Note: you are not requested to send the original application documents via post. The Acceptance Letter also will not be sent to you via post.

Planning the Arrival and Residence

It is time to start thinking of the further steps after you receive the Acceptance Letter from Vytautas Magnus University.

The university accommodation is being organized by VMU Student Affairs Department. The accommodation information can be found HERE.

The number of available places of VMU dormitory accommodation is limited and offered on a first come - first serve basis for the students who apply with the online accommodation form. The VMU Student Affairs Department opens the accommodation application form in July (for the autumn semester students) and in December (for the spring semester students).

Health Insurance is one of the obligatory requirements for all international students at Vytautas Magnus University which should be taken care of before the students’ arrival. Please find the following information HERE.

Non-EU or non-EFTA country citizens should apply for multiple entry National visas (D). Please check the Visa Guide for more information.
