Make sure to attend the Erasmus Days events happening on FEBRUARY 18th, 19th, and 20th!
During these events, coordinators from the International Cooperation Department will present exchange opportunities, answer all your questions, and assist you in choosing your Erasmus+ destination.
Have questions? We’ve got answers! Our F.A.Q. section provides quick answers to the most common inquiries about studies and traineeship abroad. Browse through the questions below or feel free to contact us if you need further assistance.
Undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students students are eligible for the exchange programmes.
Application for studies abroad is not available for students of the final semester.
Mobility-Online is a VMU platform for managing Erasmus+/bilateral exchange applications, guiding students through application submission, pre-departure preparations, and post-mobility procedures.
Students can participate in more than one competition simultaneously. However, if you are selected for more than one mobility, you will have to choose where to go.
Students can combine Erasmus+ study and traineeship periods, provided they do not exceed the total mobility duration per cycle.
Each student can participate multiple times, but the total mobility period (for Erasmus+ studies and traineeship) cannot exceed 12 months per study cycle. The bilateral exchange programme does not have period limitations.
For inquiries about short-term mobility opportunities, you should contact your faculty/academy academic coordinator. They can provide detailed information on available opportunities and application procedures for short-term mobilities.
Students' selection criteria are:
For studies in EU countries:
See the list of announced universities for the ongoing competition, choose the country/university according to your department/study field and check the course catalogues published on the websites of host universities. Contact the VMU academic coordinator regarding the courses’ compatibility.
For studies in non-EU countries:
See the list of announced universities for the ongoing competition, choose the country and check the course catalogues published on the websites of host universities. Contact the VMU academic coordinator regarding the courses’ compatibility.
Note: pay attention to the language of instruction and evaluate if your level of foreign language knowledge is sufficient.
The students must carefully choose the university by checking the course catalogue announced for the incoming exchange students on the websites of host universities before submitting the application for the scholarship competition. Academic coordinators in the faculties are ready to answer all your studies-related questions.
The courses will be recognized after you return if the Learning Agreement (a document which consists of the list of courses approved by the sending and receiving universities) is submitted properly.
Many universities offer dormitory accommodation. Students prefer choosing this type of accommodation for better integration.
Some universities cannot offer enough places in dormitories, therefore students need to check this information beforehand.
Please note: accommodation fees in the USA are higher than in other countries: ~10.000 $/semester.
Contact the exchange programmes' ambassadors for more practical information.
Students are responsible for securing their internship placement.
Recent graduates can do an Erasmus+ traineeship within 12 months of graduation. Students must apply while they are still enrolled at the university.
Students are awarded with credits after completion. The traineeship will be mentioned in the diploma supplement. For recent graduates, VMU issues a certificate stating the completion of the traineeship (upon request). 40 hours of traineeship completion equal to 1.5 ECTS credits.
Yes, if you agree with the host organization for a paid traineeship.
The monthly grant amount varies depending on the destination country and type of mobility.

Erasmus+ Scholarship for Studies in non EU/EEA countries:
VMU Mobility Scholarships (bilateral exchange) for Studies in non EU/EEA countries:
Erasmus+ Scholarship for Traineeship in EU/EEA countries:
Erasmus+ Scholarship for Traineeship in non EU/EEA countries:
Students with fewer opportunities (e.g., low-income backgrounds, disabilities, or children) may receive additional funding (available only for the Erasmus+ programme).
More information is available here.
Erasmus+ and bilateral exchange students do not pay tuition fees at the host university, but they may need to cover additional costs such as student union fees or material costs.
Students can work during their studies abroad but it should not interfere with their studies. Some countries have restrictions for non-EU students.
Erasmus+ students who choose ecological travelling can get a higher scholarship.
Ecological travel refers to using more environmentally friendly means of transportation, such as trains, buses, or carpooling, instead of high-emission options like flights or solo car travel. Travelling by car can be considered green travel only if you are carpooling with other participants to reduce emissions per person.
If you use a bus for your outbound journey but take a flight on your return, it would not be considered fully ecological travel. Generally, to qualify as green travel, the entire journey should be made using sustainable transport options.
Please note: ecological travelling scholarships are not offered in the bilateral exchange programme.
