VMU Debate Club
VDU Debate Club is a student-run organization open to all university students who wish to gain practical experience in British parliamentary style debate in English, and to build a community of like-minded friends!
The club welcomes people of all levels and skills, and students with no prior debate experience can easily join. In the Debate Club, you will have the opportunity to develop critical thinking, rhetorical skills, and English language proficiency. You will be encouraged to explore topics in philosophy, politics, economics, art criticism, social movements, and more with curiosity. We will also prepare to participate and compete in international tournaments, proudly representing VMU.
VDU Debate Club is like a hexagon; it has many sides. One of them, of course, is the debates themselves! British parliamentary style debates are not only a joyful exercise where you can practice self-expression and public speaking, but they are also strategic games. Just like chess, but with words instead of pieces.
In addition, we offer workshops on argument characterization and construction, as well as brainstorming sessions—all of which can be extremely useful in an academic career. Don’t forget about the community of debaters we have built and continue to nurture. Our club fosters connections between like-minded individuals that can last a lifetime!
Join our club and discover all the sides of the British parliamentary style debate hexagon for yourself.
