Abstract: Language competence is important for every student in order to improve knowledge and become a competent specialist. The paper analyses the issues of students’ competence development in higher school and substantiates the context of communicative abilities. Development of students’ communicative competencies ensures mobility of future specialists in the European Union. The paper presents results of the investigation, which leads to the statement that fulfilling certain tasks in the course of foreign language learning at the university significantly contributes to the development of students’ communicative competencies
