Abstract
Adequate professional training plays an important role in the professions related to taking care of other people. Many countries have license commissions, which define the formal right to work as psychotherapists, psychologists and social workers. Therefore the traditions of specialists' training and the evaluation of work effectiveness in Lithuania have not been formed yet. Numerous researches into specialists' training confirm that professionalism is attained through experience and experimenting. The professional learns to define a problem and the possibility to apply the theory and rules or reject them. Each situation of practical work adds new experience, which also teaches. Specialist's competence is bassed on experience, determined by the contents of teaching and further reflection. This research aims to examine the awareness of the importance of personal psychotherapy for social educators who have different practical experience in their sphere. The research has demonstrated that the majority of future and working social educators realized the importance of personal psychotherapy in personal and professional development. It reflects the recipients' need of self-awareness, which remains unrealized in the framework of formal training . In further researches in the given topic it is necessary to include the researches of the level of reflection and self-reflection.
