Abstract
The paper analyzes the evaluation of the competence developed in a Special Education’s study programme. The aim of the internal evaluation of the quality of studies was to establish how the full-time students in Years 3 and 4 of the Faculty of Social Welfare and Disability Studies of iauliai University evaluate developed/acquired competences in their study programme. The key objective of the research was to analyse the students’ evaluation concerning competences acquired in the process of studies depending on their gender, occupancy (only studying or studying and working), academic achievement (high, average and low achievers), year of studies (third or fourth year). To perform this students’ (N = 116) evaluation, a written survey was conducted using semi-closed questionnaire in February 2007. Having analysed how the students evaluate professional competences to be developed in a study programme, conclusions reached were that students intensely pay attention to the following competences: social, pupils’ evaluation and motivation and also competence to communicate. These were deemed important and actually implemented in the programme. The lowest evaluation was given to the competences of creating educational environment and developing educational programmes, the ability to adapt to and individualize general education curricula, also to the ability to apply educational ideas, technologies and special equipment while educating children with special educational needs. The fact how the academic community itself, including students, evaluates certain aspects of the process of studies (in our case – professional competences to be developed in the programme), allows for a better understanding of the actual situation, looking for opportunities and resources, thus stimulating modernization of the study programme of Special Education.
