Abstract
Photosynthetic organisms are highly sensitive to heavy metals. The effect of metal ions on higher plants includes disruption of many physiological functions such as water relations, respiration, mineral nutrient uptake, assimilation as well as photosynthesis [1]. A majority of plants are more sensitive during seedling stages [2-5]. Cadmium is a non-essential element; it is readily absorbed by plant roots, probably in competition with other bivalent ions [6], and is then transported from roots to aerial organs [7].[...].
