Abstract (en)
Ethnic, national identities have recently gained a specific rank of investigations. It was causad by rapid increase of the role of ethnic groups as means or tools of reaction to the modernization and to the changes it caused. Ethnic identity in the post-modern society is the result of the strategic choice by individuals. The choice of the individuals depends on the "effectiveness" of being the member of the ethnic group. Long lasting negative individual experiences related to the ethnic membership could lead to its negation. This statement is important in the context of relations betwwen Polish minority and Lithuanian majority. These relations are based on domination, lack of confidence, isolation [...].
