Abstract: One of the main challenges for EU is to foster entrepreneurship among society. Entrepreneurship development is interrelated with the development of the whole sector of small and medium– sized business. The contribution of the SME’s sector to the economy attracted attention of academics and policy makers in both developed and transition economies. One of the main challenges for Lithuania as country in transition is to develop small and medium-seized enterprises. It is important because the flexibility and entrepreneurial incentives of a private SME sector will enable to compete and contribute to wealth creation. There has been developing research interest in the link between entrepreneurship and small business since the start of the 1980s. SMEs are considered to be the backbone of the business economy. In addition SMEs are thought to stimulate the competitive dynamics of the economy, forcing others companies to increase their efficiency and innovate. Small and medium business plays important social, political, economical and evolutionary role. In spite of importance SMEs continue to face a number of environmental barriers. [...]
