Jaunius Erikas Kaubrys appeared on the Lithuanian art scene in the end of the 1990s. His glass pieces combine the hot and cold techniques of glass treatment, while the forms he chooses reflect the artist’s interest in natural forms and the symbolism of human figure. A generalized motif, heavy masses of glass, and rough surfaces married with dark gloomy colors, slightly intermingled with brighter details, all contribute to the dimension of mystery in his glass pieces. Under the impact of his trip to Venice, the artist has been recently employing more diversified viewing angles, a larger variety of substance, controversial details and silhouettes, abstract as well as realistic, to produce the ultimate effect of intrigue, paradox, grotesque. Ever deeper understanding of the medium he works with and the growing mastery of technology is apparent in his later works, particularly those with pronounced curved surface.
