Abstract: 1990 m. [...]

In addition to the art history departments of the Architecture Institute working from the Soviet times, a small unit of the Academy of Sciences grew into a solid separate Lithuanian Culture Research Institute, Art history Institute was established at Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts; Faculty of Arts was founded at the re-established Vytautas Magnus University. The possibilities to study the ancient art and architecture layers barely explored by the time opened up for the researchers of art and architecture. Current researches focused on the search of self-identity became the priority areas: the sacred, ethnic heritage, the composite Great Duchy of Lithuania art culture, the increased attention paid to the architectural and cultural heritage identification of the estates and disclosure of the twentieth century interwar art heritage. Inter-cultural relations of Lithuania with the Eastern, Central and Western Europe are being investigated, slips of the influences and directions are being revealed. Analysis of the contemporary culture and art processes is not left behind. Not only expanded circle of problems is evident over the past twenty years, but also the spread of interdisciplinary research. It is important to state a fact, that art history science does not have mandatory research areas and covers various spheres of the Lithuanian multicultural heritage, which are defined by the researchers themselves. After the research field of art history studies has got deeper and wider, the issue of specialists training became current. [...]
