Abstract: Šiandien vis dažniau kalbame apie sveikatą, jos stiprinimą, sveikatos problemas bei sveiko gyvenimo būdo nuostatų formavimo(si) svarbą.
Nowadays, more than ever, we talk about health and its importance, various different ways to improve it and better ourselves, as well as any health-related issues that might occur. Public health specialist Piličiauskienė (2017) believes that educating the society about healthy lifestyle will shape beneficial habits into their day-to-day lives and teach how to improve and strengthen it. It is crucial to educate children how to lead a healthy lifestyle, hence it should not only be done by schools but also parents and guardians, who should take part in exercising, hiking, and eating healthy along with their offspring. Every individual is different, therefore, it is important to develop personalized plans and requirements which should be based on their own experience and needs, adapting them into their daily lives. The aim of this thesis is to understand and discuss the importance of a parent’s/guardian’s role in educating their child to lead a healthy lifestyle. Aims and objectives: 1. Disclose and discuss healthy lifestyle habits in a family; 2. Discuss parents’/guardians’ possibilities while educating their children with regards to this topic; 3. Understand parents’/guardians’ expectations for their children. Research object: Parent/Guardian role and importance in educating their offspring about healthy lifestyle. Methodology: literature review and qualitative research was used for the empirical research, as well as individual surveys were conducted. The conducted qualitative research revealed that parents/guardians start shaping their child’s understanding about healthy living early in their lives. Whether they do that by using themselves as an example (cooking healthy food, sticking to regular sleeping schedule, avoiding any toxic habits), spending extra time with their offspring (explaining the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and eating/cooking nutritious meals) or simply finding common activities they enjoy, such as exercising, hiking, walking, playing sports, etc. Unfortunately, not all parents/guardians are putting their best efforts into ensuring that their children lead a healthy lifestyle. Due to being busy with work or other problems, they might not have time to establish a suitable sleep schedule for their children, improve their nutrition or encourage them to exercise. The conducted survey showed that parents/guardians have high hopes for their children to lead a healthy lifestyle and be able to adapt it later in their lives. It is expected that they will take care of both, their physical as well as mental wellbeing, while leading normal lives and enjoying their hobbies. This should be passed down to subsequent generations.
