Abstract: The process of integration into the European Union involves not only the retention of the Lithuanian identity but also the integration into the newly shaped European identity that is expected to reflect the identities of all the European Union member states. Thus, the article focuses on the Lithuanian identity in comparison with the English and Russian identities. Common interface of different nations and cultures is analysed based on the Lithuanian, English and Russian proverbs and sayings. Ethnocultural sameness of different language groups and nations is stressed. The conditions ensuring the development of intercultural communication that would secure the opportunity to form the identity of the European citizen are also discussed
